PMAY-U houses Crosses 45,000 Mark in J&K, over 1,400 sanctioned in Ladakh: Govt | KNO

Srinagar, Dec 18 (KNO): More than 45,000 houses have been sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U) and PMAY-U 2.0 in Jammu and Kashmir, the government of India informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday. It added that Ladakh has received approval for more than 1,400 houses under the scheme. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, the Ministry of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Tokhan Sahu said to a news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that out of 45, 112 sactioned houses, 34, 453 houses have been completed and occupied. While in Ladakh, 1,434 houses have been approved, and 934 houses stand completed and occupied. Housing and urban development are State and UT subjects, and the implementation of schemes such as PMAY-U, AMRUT, Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban and PM e-Bus Sewa is carried out by the respective UT administrations with financial and technical support from the Centre, said the Ministry. It was informed that PMAY-U scheme, which was launched in 2015 to provide all-weather pucca houses with basic civic amenities to eligible urban beneficiaries and the deadline for completion has been extended till December 31, 2025. Based on the experience gained from PMAY-U, the Centre launched PMAY-U 2.0 in September 2024 to extend housing support to an additional one crore beneficiaries across the country over the next five years. This scheme also includes slum dwellers and adds a dedicated Affordable Rental Housing component. The Ministry further said that the progress of PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0 in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh is being monitored at the city, UT and central levels through regular reviews to ensure timely completion and occupancy of houses—(KNO)
